Yeap, we did it. Five (5) years! And we are celebrating in a different way this time by joining the vibrant community at LinuxDay Torino 2024! As a team dedicated to delivering managed hosting services with open-source software, we couldn’t think of a better event to connect with like-minded individuals and small and medium teams seeking freedom in digital infrastructure.
Before sharing all the details about LinuxDay 2024 Torino, our team took a step back and dedicated time to refining our operations in the same way italian coffee is prepared and served. At Cloud68.co, we’re always exploring ways to make hassle-free digital infrastructure accessible to small and medium-sized teams through open-source tools. This retreat was all about mapping out our operational workflows and enhancing our services, making it easier for teams to not only get started with us but also to established our Add-On Services for a more hassle-free managed hosting experience. This new initiative, alongside our constant focus on streamlining processes and reducing uneccesary manual work for our operations, helps us focus more towards our commitment to deliver friendly, human support. It’s part of our dedication to combining automation of boring tasks with a human touch to serve our community even better.
LinuxDay, one of Italy’s flagship days dedicated to Linux, free and open-source software, and digital freedoms, is one of those special gatherings that bring FLOSS (Free/Libre and Open Source Software) enthusiasts together. Hosted in multiple cities across Italy on the same day, LinuxDay opens its doors to anyone interested in learning more about Linux, from newcomers to seasoned experts. Entry is free, the Italian coffee is of outstanding quality so everyone can experience it better!
For us at Cloud68.co, participating to LinuxDay Torino is a way of reconnecting in-person with the broader FLOSS community after a while. It’s a place to discover and celebrate shared values, but also to show our support for local communities, which we believe are the heart and soul of the open-source movement. Sponsoring this event felt like a natural extension of our mission to support the open-source community in Italy, and we’re excited to join in the discussions and meet new FLOSS friends.
In our conversations with Linux contributors and users, one sentiment is increasingly clear: people are growing frustrated with the rise of “fake open source.” This trend of semi-closed, proprietary forks masquerading as open-source goes against the principles of true FLOSS. Inspired by this, we’re launching a Rise Against Fake Open Source sticker campaign at LinuxDay! So, if you’re at the event, be sure to stop by and pick one up (while supplies last). These stickers are our small way of celebrating the power of genuine open source and standing up against half-measures and walled gardens.
Yes, we turn five this year, and we’re celebrating at our info booth! Drop by to say hello, grab a sticker, and be part of our anniversary. We’re also offering some celebratory Italian cake, so you can taste the sweetness during the event. And as a thank-you to the community that has supported us, we’re giving away Nextcloud Managed Hosting subscriptions for an entire year! Don’t forget to sign up for your chance to win.
In addition to the fantastic lineup of talks, Cloud68.co’s own Boris and Redon will be presenting on a topic that’s close to our mission: Rising Against Big Tech (#rabt). Their talk will dive into the ways we can resist monopolistic tech practices using truly free and open-source tools. Our #rabt campaign highlights the importance of escaping proprietary systems that lock us in, spy on us, and stifle the open-source ethos. They’ll share insights into how we run Cloud68.co with FLOSS tools and how you, too, can start your own open-source managed hosting company, cooperative, organization or company.
If you are in Torino, Italy and share our vision of a more open, privacy-respecting digital landscape, join us at LinuxDay Torino 2024. Let’s connect, celebrate, and inspire each other to keep building and protecting the freedoms we believe in.
