The Global Gathering 2025 is happening September 8-10 in Estoril, Portugal, bringing together digital rights defenders from around the world for three days of collabs building, brainstorming and knowledge sharing. This event has been on our to-visit list for a couple of years now, and after lots of people asked us earlier this year if we were going, it became clear that we needed to finally make it happen in 2025.
The event is described to us as the ideal environment to foster solidarity across disciplines and regions, with participants representing over 144 countries and 1,000 organizations and networks. It will bring together once again digital rights defenders from all over the world focus on the most urgent challenges at the intersection of technology and human rights. We should expect three days of networking and collaboration focusing on grassroots approaches to the technological challenges of this day and age.
In this event, we’re not presenting something specifically about Cloud68.co. Instead, we’ve channeled our energies towards the promotion of the Rise Against Big Tech campaign. The project has had lots of progress, but that is another blog post we are preparing to publish soon.

We expect the #RABT booth to become a space for conversations about practical ways of migrating your team and/or organisation from proprietary to open source digital infrastructure. It is the ideal place if you want to migrate from Big Tech to a movement hosting provider, but need more support, guidance and training to make sure your first steps outside the doors of tech oligopolies are as smooth as possible.
If you’re at the event and want to talk about movement hosting and open source managed hosting, come find us! You’ll find us at the #RABT info booth during our time slot. We’ll also join the ‘Building Environmental Justice with Community Tech: From Research to Collective Action’ circle on September 10. Feel free to e-mail us or send a message on Mastodon where we’ll be posting updates during our trip.
We’re looking forward to being part of this conversation in Estoril and learning from all the good work happening across the global digital rights ecosystem.
See you there! 🌊
